Reading a Wheelchair Warranty: What the Fine Print Actually Covers

Lifetime frame warranties sound great. The carve-outs are where the value gets decided. A line-by-line guide to evaluating coverage.

Every brand advertises 'lifetime warranty.' Almost none cover the parts most likely to fail. Here's how to read the fine print.

Frame warranty

Usually the longest — often lifetime. Covers the welded structural frame against defects. Almost never covers crash damage or rust from outdoor storage.

Motor warranty

1–3 years is typical. Brushless motors often get longer coverage than brushed.

Battery warranty

6–12 months, with a 'consumable' carve-out. Capacity loss below 60% is the usual replacement trigger.

Electronics

Controller, joystick, harnesses — 1 year on most chairs, 2 on premium models.

Transferability

Most warranties are non-transferable. If you buy used, assume zero coverage and price accordingly.
